It is with sad hearts that we share Library Board of Trustee Mona Wagner’s passing. She was a gracious, down to earth lady who loved children and the library. She will be missed.

Mona Jean Breeden Wagner, 79 years of age of Pilgrims Knob, VA, passed away Friday, August 23, 2019 at her home. Born April 20, 1940 in Jewell Ridge, VA, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Gay Rife Breeden.
Mona was a graduate of Clinch Valley College where she received her Bachelors and Masters Degree in Education. She was a teacher for 49 ½ years, having worked for McDowell County, Buchanan County School Systems until her retirement in January 2019. She served as a member of The Red Hat Society and served on the Buchanan County Library Board. She was a member of the Flatwoods Church Of Christ, a loving mother, grandmother, and sister.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband James C. Wagner, and brother Ronald Puckett.
Survivors include her sons James Wagner and wife Barbara of Carryton, TN, Tim Wagner and wife Sherry of Pilgrims Knob, VA; brothers A. C. Breeden and wife Leslie of KY, Ernest Breeden and wife Sue of Jewell Ridge, VA, Lowell Breeden and wife Peggy of OH; sister Cheryl Rife and husband Ray of Richlands, VA.
She is also survived by her grandchildren William Wagner, Kayla Wagner, step grandchildren Jamison Bowman and Scott Bowman, great grandchildren Hayden Wagner, and Milly Wagner, several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service for Mona Jean Breeden Wagner will be held at the Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home Chapel of Keen Mountain, VA, Monday, August 26, 2019 at 12:00 noon with Evangelist Steve White and Pastor Jay Cole officiating. Burial will follow in the Wagner Family Cemetery on Compton Mountain, Pilgrims Knob, VA.
Active pallbearers will be her family and friends.
The family will receive friends at the Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home Chapel of Keen Mountain, VA, Sunday, after 6:00 p.m.

Thanks to the wonderful teen volunteers working with the Buchanan First Presbyterian Church and St Joseph’s Catholic Church, the nature walk behind the library is now within 50 feet of completion. THESE volunteers were from the Bloomington Indiana area and we hope to see them again next year.
