The Buchanan County Public Library is accepting resumes for the position of Library Director.

The basic requirements are listed as follows:

Candidates must demonstrate expertise in public library operations including, administration, personnel, and fiscal and facility management. Critical skills needed include: community services, budgeting, financial planning, grant writing, and outreach services. The library director will report to a governing board of trustees.

Candidates must have the ability to effectively and positively represent the library before community groups and the public, consistent with the library's vision, mission, and strategic plan. They must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, library board of trustees, the Friends of the Buchanan County Public Library, community leaders, public officials, leaders of educational and civic organizations, and the general public.

Candidates must be reliable with satisfactory attendance and be able to communicate by phone, email, text, and instant message. They must be able to sit at a desk or stand for prolonged periods of time. They must be able to use a computer which requires repetitive wrist, hand and finger motion and extensive screen time. They must be able to lift 35lbs and push up to 150 lbs. on wheels. They must be able to travel independently to off-site meetings, workshops and community events.

Educational Requirements: Master of Library Science degree from an American Library Association accredited program and be eligible for a Librarian’s Professional Certificate issued by the Library of Virginia.

Successful candidates will be required to reside in Buchanan County within 6 months of employment.

Salary: To be based upon experience, anticipated to be between $50,000-$60,000. Health, dental, vacation, and retirement benefits will be provided by the county.
