Summer Reading for Teens
Teen Summer Reading is going virtual this year. Sign up at https://bcplnet.beanstack.org/reader365 to earn prizes for reading and access videos and activities that go along with this year’s theme: Dig Deeper: Read, Investigate, Discover. If you don’t have internet access call us at 276-935-5721 for options.
Read anything and everything you like. We will be hosting a live book discussion of Colleen Gleason’s “The Clockwork Scarab” online on July 9 at 6:00 pm (link will be shared the week of the event). As part of Gleason’s Stoker and Holmes series, this book takes us to a steam-powered version of Victorian London for mystery, mayhem, and the undead. The Summer Reading booklist has more great reading suggestions. Also, check out the Teen page on https://bcplnet.org/learn-discover/teens/ for recommendations and book talks.
Investigate your world. This year’s Summer Reading program invites you to look up at the stars and down into the ocean, learn about how crime scenes and historical sites are investigated, and explore your family history through stories and food.
Summer is the perfect time to discover something new, whether it’s a new book or a hobby you love. Your Summer Reading registration bag and the Teen page on https://bcplnet.org/learn-discover/teens/ contain activities and videos to help you get started. The Digital Library and Information tabs on www.bcplnet.org has links to the library’s downloadable e-books and audiobooks (OverDrive, RBdigital, Freading, and Hoopla) as well links to databases and ebooks on a variety of topics (check out A to Z Food America and Explora).
To earn prizes, log your reading in the app or online. Every 140 minutes you read will move you up to the next prize level. Earn badges for watching videos and completing activities. Those signed up by June 8, 2020 will receive a registration bag with crafts and activities to do at home.
Don’t forget to check out Ms. Teresa’s interviews with R. L. Stine, author of the Goosebumps and Fear Street series on June 15 at 6:00 pm and Lauren Tarshis, author of the I Survived series on at 6:00 pm on the library’s Facebook page.
Summer Reading may look different this year, but the library is still here for you. We hope that you have a great summer as you Dig Deeper: Read, Investigate, Discover. Please share photos of your finished projects and Summer Reading memories. Email your photos to firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com and we will share them on the BCPL website and Facebook page.
“Reading gives us somewhere to go when we have to stay where we are.”
