School Readiness and Socialization Programs Offered September Through May

Little Bits

This class is for parents and their 2-4-year-old. An introduction to friends and the world of books is what this class is all about.  The class meets on Tuesday and/or Friday mornings at 11:30 until noon. We sit on the floor, sing, and enjoy books. Parties are held at holiday time.

BabyTALK

This class meets every Wednesday at 12p.m. Babies under age 2 and parents are introduced to the library and given age-appropriate reading lists so books can be enjoyed by the whole family.

Home School Group

Two grade levels, K-5th and 6th-12th grade, meet on Friday at 10am. Call for information about past and future projects.

Reading Programs for the Whole Family

Prevent the Summer Slide!

Our Summer Reading Challenge is for all ages.  Children who read consistently in the summer while school is not in session return to school in the fall at a higher reading level than their peers who do not read.  Why not have fun and earn prizes while maintaining school readiness!

Library of Virginia Resources for Families

 DaybyDayVA

Engage your family in this family literacy calendar featuring a book recommendation, a song, an activity, and more for every day of the year.  Not every book recommendation may be available so be sure to ask our staff for additional recommendations!

Dial a Story

Each Wednesday a new story will be available for listeners around Virginia.  These stories are read by volunteers throughout Virginia and include recent picture books, fairy tales, folk tales, books highlighting equity, diversity and inclusion, and classic picture books.  This program is offered 24/7 by calling 1-833-690-0646.  Your local library does not select the books or know which books will be read.
